Teens Caught Shopping with Counterfeit Euros they Bought on the Dark Web
Despite their young age, five kids from Rhodes (greek city) were playing on the Internet who managed to access the Dark Web which one can not reach using traditional search engines as there are multiple levels of encryption and pay with Bitcoin to buy counterfeit euros , which flooded the shops of Rhodes!
The Security investigation lasted two and a half years and finally the juvenile counterfeiters were taken to the interrogator to apologize. They are a 17-year-old, three 16-year-olds and a 15-year-old, who are accused of supplying, possessing and circulating counterfeit coins. The offenses were allegedly committed in September 2018, but the case has only now been clarified.
According to the case file, on September 5 and 6, 2018, the police received complaints from the owners of a tobacco shop in the city of Rhodes and a tourist shop in the Medieval City, for young people who made cheap purchases by paying with counterfeit 50 euro banknotes. . In total, they redeemed eight counterfeit banknotes, mainly in convenience stores, tourist shops and kiosks, collecting a total of 400 euros as change.
The investigation revealed that two of the 16-year-olds ordered through the Dark Web from an unknown vendor 40 counterfeit 50 euro banknotes, with a price of 300 euros which they paid with Bitcoin.
One of the 16-year-olds received them through a courier company on September 3 and the next day he handed over to his peer friend 25 counterfeit banknotes, another five to the third 16-year-old from whom he took the amount of 100 euros and gave another ten counterfeits to the 17-year-old and the 15-year-old. the agreement to give him 25 euros for each of them when they redeemed them, as it happened!
During the searches, ten counterfeit banknotes were found in the house of the first 16-year-old and another 15 in the second, which were confiscated.
