Man Confesses to Buying Killer Weapons on the Dark Web

Siesser pleaded guilty to one account of attempting to acquire chemical weaponry. His lawyer said that his client regrets his actions of buying killer weapons on the dark web.

People deal with breakups in different ways. Still, not many attempt to use Bitcoin to buy chemical weaponry on the darknet. Moreover, chemical weaponry is enough to kill hundreds of people. Well, 46-year-old Jason William Siesser did precisely that. As a result, he got sentenced to 12 years in prison.
In the summer of 2018, Siesser attempted to use cryptocurrency to buy killer weapons. The DoJ statement indicated, “Writings located within the home articulated Siesser’s heartache, anger, and resentment over a heartbreak, and a desire for the person who caused the heartache to die.”
When making the purchase, Siesser told the seller he was planning to use the weaponry soon. Further, the chemical got identified in reports as dimethylmercury. Also, prosecutors said the Missouri man ordered enough to kill 300 people. In turn, Siesser’s lawyer said that his client regrets his actions.

How Missouri Man Bought Killer Weapons on the Dark Web

Siesser pleaded guilty to one account of attempting to acquire chemical weaponry. In addition, he also pleaded guilty to one account of aggravated identity theft. All that happened on August 4, 2020. Following this, Siesser provided a shipping address in the name of a juvenile. In fact, he used the identity without authorization to place the weaponry order.
Siesser ordered 10ml units of the chemical from a black market on August 5, 2018. He paid for the order with Bitcoin equivalent to $150. Along with that, he provided a shipping address in the name of the juvenile.
Authorities indicated that Siesser had been a guardian of two minors. Thus, he used different combinations of their names. So, one of them was on order for the toxic substance.
On 23rd, 2018, a package containing an inert substance got delivered to Siesser’s apartment. Indeed, Siesser believed the package contained the chemical weaponry he was expecting. Therefore, he signed for the delivery and took it inside the residence.

Siesser gets Caught

Soon after, authorities executed a search warrant on the 46-year-old’s residence. So then, the officers located the inert substance on the top of a shelf in the garage. Additionally, the authorities spotted two separate unopened boxes next to it. The boxes contained the following:
About 10 grams of cadmium arsenide
Approximately 100 grams of cadmium metal
Approximately 500ml of hydrochloric acid
An invoice for these products indicated that they got bought on March 30, 2018.
Cadmium arsenide is a toxic compound that can be deadly if ingested or inhaled. Likewise, dimethylmercury is a very toxic organomercury compound. More so, according to the American Council on Science and Health, it can be fatal. Besides, a permit is necessary to buy the clear sweet-smelling liquid.
One other thing, it has few uses outside scientific research. Moreover, it gets considered a chemical weapon when used outside research. Above all, its lethal effects received widespread attention. For instance, a lab accident caused the death of a professor at Dartmouth College.
While purchasing the chemical substance on the dark web, Siesser was careful. For example, he used the Tor Browser and cryptocurrency. The reason being, to avoid getting tracked. Yet, the dark web is not only full of criminals like Siesser and hackers. It also hosts activists and journalists who seek anonymity.
